Postcard from the Edge
Wherever we go, we're never first......
Taking this picture, The River Derwent, which powered the start of the Industrial Revolution, is immediately behind me. In front is St Alkmund’s, a first-millennium Church from the start of the Feudal period, where St Alkmund’s remains were hosted for a while on their way to be buried in Derby around 1100 CE, and now a waypoint on his Pilgrimage route.
Remy the Black Lab takes me past it most mornings.
Whatever we think of the disorder we are experiencing, it’s a salutary thought that people have been walking this path for over a thousand years, probably reflecting on much the same thoughts.
What we’re in is not disorder. Disorder is a story we tell ourselves to make us feel better, find someone to blame and hope someone else will take care of it.
They won’t. It’s down to us.
